at Bridlington I have written him a note saying I cannot comply with his request I did not mention your name, but should you know the applicant, Mr. Whiteing, you will probably have the goodness to explain that by the 445 Sec of the M.S. Act 1854 & paragraph 12 of the Instructions supplied with G O 106/1855, I have no power to nominate a Deputy where there is a Customs or Coast Guard establisment

"The C&C however at those Ports within which there are outlying places having neither officers of the Customs nor Coast Guard stationed thereat, And with respect to which Districts special directions may be needed, are to submit forthwith such arrangement as may be desirable for the performance of the duties prescribed by the Act & the Instructions above mentioned,"

You will therefore perceive that yo were your establishment not at Bridlington I should have to go to the Board on the matter

I herewith send you another letter I have received from Mr. Whiteing on the subject of being my deputy Wrecker at Bridlington, to whom I have replied that, with reference to my Instructions contained in G. O. 106/1855 I have no power to comply with his request when offrs. of the Coast G. are in the neigbourhood

Sir Mr. Clubby of Finthom House, has called upon me today on the subject of Admiralty Droits & has shewn me your letter to him dated the 9 Inst - directing him to sell all wreck &c that came into his possession on or before the 22 Ulto. inclusive -

I beg to acquaint you that I have directed him not to attend to your Instructions, & to refer you to my letter of the 20 Inst - calling upon you as the representative of your late Father to deliver to me all Books Accounts, Notes &c appertaining to wreck, that he had in his possession at the time of his decease, - At the same time I beg to assure you that whatever emoluments he might have been entitled to, - up to that time, shall be duly paid to you, - But I apprehend you have no authority, - as your fathers representative, - to make sale of any wreck &c as his authority ceased with his existence should you have made arrangements for Sale of any wreck property - I beg you will have the goodness to cancel the same - Also to apprize me when it will be convenient for you to deliver to me the Books &c required by my aforesaid letter of the 20 Inst

Mr Ths Wright Ship Owner Whitby Sir. 10th October 1857 I beg to acknowledge the Receipt of your letter of the 21st Ulto and yesterday's dates - and to acquaint that I returned to Hull but the other day only - when I lost no time in making inquiry respecting the Anchor and chains of your ship - "Delta" - and regret that I cannot supply you with any intelligence respecting the same - The occurrence happened a short time before I took Office here. Decbr 1854. but no such Anchor and Chains as you describe have been ledged either with my predecessor or with me The late Mr Stephenson of Bridlington was receiver of Wreck till October 1855 when I succeeded him in the Office - and sold several Anchors and Chains which he left at Bridlington to which I have sent since my return - and had an inquiry made amongst the Boat-men, but they have no remembrance of any such articles. I have alsomade inquiry of the receiver of Wreck for the [Humber], and he has no knowledge whatever, of the Anchor and Chains. J Sparrow.
