Genus IV. Fuirena, Rottboll

Spikes many flowered, clustered or solitary, axillary and
terminal; scales imbricated on all sides, awned below the
apex; perianth of 3 sessile or unguiculate,
ovate or heart-shaped petaloid scales, usually with
as many alternate small bristles; stamens three,
placed opposite the scales; style 3-cleft; achenium
triangular, pointed with the persistent base of the
style. -- Culms obtusely angular.
