10 Cyperus filiculmis, Vahl.

Syn. C. Mariscoides, Ell. C. Killingaeoides Ph.
Scirpus cyperiformis, Muhl. S. lupulinus, Spreng.

Leaves linear; spikes numerous and
clustered in a single dense head, or in 1 to 3 additional
looser heads on spreading rays, linear-lanceolate,
rather convex; joints of the rachis naked; scales
ovate, obtuse, loose; achenium ovate triangular
short-pointed. Culms 12 to 18 inches high,
slender, wiry, often declining. Flowers in August.

Dry sandy soil, on the Wisconsin, Upper
Mississippi, and St Peter rivers in Wisconsin
and Minnesota; also in Illinois, Ohio, and
Michigan. Extends to the Southern states.
