Sterile spike 1 to 3 slender; fertile 1 or 2
short, ovoid, few flowered; perigynia ovoid, tapering
into a short minutely toothed beak, not much
longer than the ovate awnless scale;
leaves and bracts linear, at
length involute; culm very slender, one to
three feet high. Flowers in May.
Cranberry marshes.
Wisconsin, Michigan, & about Lake
Superior. Extends northward to the
Arctic regions.
