Sterile spike solitary cylindrical, small; fertile
2 to 4 oblong-cylindrical, upper only sessile, lower
long peduncled, the lowest very remote, on a
long filiform peduncle; perigynia ovate-lanceolate,
beaked, very strongly nerved, two-toothed, slightly
diverging, about the length of the ovate cuspidate
scale; bracts leaflike, much exceeding the culm. Culm 2 feet to 2 1/2 feet high.

Very near if not identical with the last species.
