Syn C. striata carey (not of Michx.)

Sterile spikes 2 to 5, cylindrical, sometimes
with a few fertile flowers; fertile spikes 2 or 3 oblong-
cylindrical, erect, remote, one of them sometimes
staminate at the apex; perigynia very hairy on
the nerves, tapering from a broad base, with long
spreading teeth; longer than the acute light
brown scale; sheaths and upper surface of the
leaves smooth; culm sharply triangular, 2 to
3 feet high. Marshes—

Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan.
Extends from Georgia to the Arctic regions, and
East to N. England.
