Syn. C. pellita Muhl.
Sterile spikes 1 to 3, the uppermost stalked;
fertile oblong or cylindrical, erect, remote, sessile;
perigynia ovoid, roughly hairy, nerved, with a
short but distinct beak, 2-toothed; bract leaf-like,
much exceeding the culm, and with the leaves
flat. Culm 2 feet high; flowers in May;
swamps and wet meadows.
