Syn. C. tenuis Rudge, C. flexuosa Muhl.

Sterile spike solitary, stalked, occasionally
fertile at the apex; fertile spikes 3 or 4, with loose
alternate flowers on a somewhat zigzag rachis, stalked,
remote; perigynia oblong tapering at each end,
few nerved, twice as long as the ovate-lanceolate,
awned scale. Culm 12 to 18 inches high.
Moist meadows.
