Syn C. sylvatica Dewey, (not of Hudson)

Sterile spike solitary, stalked; fertile spikes
3 or 4 loose flowered, narrower towards the base, long, slender, remote, on long
nodding stalks; perigynia ovoid-elliptical, triangular
short stalked, rather blunt at the base, the beak very
short, longer than the pointed scale. Culm
12 to 15 inches high; flowers in May. Moist
woods and meadows.
