138 Carex Houghtonii Torrey

Sterile spike solitary erect; fertile spike
oblong or sylindrical; look=flowered; with long leafy
bracts; perigynia ovate, round, two toothed,
nerved, rough pubescent; about twice the length
of the ovate, mucconate scale. Culm
about a foot high, triquetrous, scabous above,
striete; leaves short, and shortest at the base.

Found at [Masca?] Lake, near the source
of the [Mississippi?] in Minnesota, by Dr. Houghton.
Also in the arctic regions.
