Sterile spike solitary, pistillate above,
pedunculate; fertile spikes three, oblong, thick
somewhat three sided on slender long [received?]
peduncles, bracts leafy; not exceeding the
culm; perigynia acutish at both ends,
globrous, nerved, nearly twice as long as the
ovate pointed or cuspidate scale. Culm
12 to 18 inches high; flowers in May.
Wet meadows.
