Sterile spike solitary, sessile; fertile spikes
3 to 5 oblong, loosely flowered, remote, and the
lowest distant, perigynia ovoid-oblong, obscurely
nerved, rather longer than the ovate awned
scale; achenium obovate, triquetrious,
pitted under a lens; bracts leafy much
exceeding the culm.
