Syn. C. Muskingumensis Schw.
Spikes 7 to 10 large, oval-oblong acute at
each end, approximate, dry & chaff-like; perigynia
very long, narrowly lanceolate, compressed,
winged, nerved, bidentate, tapering into a long
beak, more than twice the length of the oval=
=lanceolate scale; achenium sessile, narrowly
oblong. Culm two to three feet high;
flowers in June. Wet meadows.
Illinois; Ohio. Extends north to the
Arctic regions.
