Spikes 2-3, ovate, remote, with about three
fertile flowers, the lowest with a long bract,
surpassing the culm; perigyica oblong, plano=convex, slightly
many nerved, longer than the scale.

Culms 1 to 2 feet high slender, spreading.
Flowers in June.

Michigan; About Lake Superior. Extends
to New England, and to the Arctic Region.
