Spikes about six, agregated into
an short-ovate head; perigynia ovate, acuminate,
3 or 4 indistinct nerves on the outer side;
achenium [crossed out] roundish ovate; style
tumid at the base; scales long pointed, about
the length of the perigynia. Culms
18 inches high; flowers in May. Grows
in woods, and borders of fields.

Wisconsin, Illinois, southern Indiana
Ohio and Michigan. This species has
been found to extend from Florida [crossed out] to
the Arctic regions.
