My dear Sir,

I have made
another visit to Devil's
Lake and have suc-
ceeded beyond all my
hopes in obtaining evi-
dence which to my mind
places beyond all ques-
tion the antiquity of
the quartzites & schists.
I have found the sand-
stones overlying uncon-
[formasly?] the very highly
[telled?] schists and quartzites.

My present object
in writing you is to try
and to get some more
information from you
