24th Meeting

Five members of this Society wended their way
to Leawood, on the 21st of Sept 1872, these being all
of the 24 members, who had neither sick children
previous engagements, nor bourders.

Mr & Mrs Schofield, Mrs Saml Janney, & Mr & Mrs
Geo L Stabler were the guests. It was at first proposed
to have a social evening instead of a meeting
but after paying our [devos] to a waiter of pears
we thought better of the resolution & concluded to
have a "Home Interest" with or without an audience

Anna L Moore was appointed Foreman & M B
Thomas Sec, & we walked out to inspect the gardens
& orchard. A most beautiful rustic basket of
grape vines had a new & curious plant running
over the handle, but so little wisdom was displayed
in the choice of Sec, that she can not even attempt
the name, though she did learn "portulacca" for the
third time & forgot it the next day. Suffice it to say
that the bloom was gorgeous, & much taste was displayed
in the favorable distribution of colors.
