Sarah H. Stone gave us a curious story of a lost
bank note being found whole in a mouse's nest
the inference being that it was not exactly suited to
the purpose of the little mother. This was followed by
an anecdote of a woman who was taken to task when
she said she must go home and make a "Cleveland
badge" which turned out to be a patch. Ellen F.
read first " Determined to Succeed" telling the
steps by which a poor boy seeking employment overcame
a succession of objections and at length
fitted himself to meet all requirements. E. F. then
gave us some verses, very sweet and tender, the
burden of them a mothers concern as to where the
baby feet would wander in the years to come.
Eliza N. Moore gave us a feast of good things, a paper
about the flowers of the Scilly Islands, a short article on
the old church at Avon and this served as an introduction
to a most delightful ten minutes of reminiscences
and anecdotes of her trip abroad.
A recess was now called in that some fine colored
photographs, brought by a visitor Mary N. T. Jackson
might be examined, and in all admired the
beautiful coloring taken by a new process.
Sarah E. Stabler answered a question asked at a
former meeting by suggesting the use of a piece of
fresh meat in a sheet of sticky fly paper as a
trap for fleas, Margaret S. Hallowell advised
insect powder. Sarah A. Bond read the poem
