Hi Darling -

It's now 11 am on a gorgeous Saturday morning and the only thing
that keeps it from being a simply perfect day is that I haven't gotten a letter
from you in the last three days. I hope one comes tomorrow, as I'm pretty
sure it will. And at least I can still write to you, so I have half the fun
anyway. The postman didn't cheat you yesterday - I just didn't have
a chance to write. I wrote a long open letter to the club Thursday evening,
and two pages more to Dave - you might stop by to read it since it includes
some impressions on Berlin which I didn't write to you. So now I should
be off the blacklist as a correspondent for a while and you won't get any
more calorie-rich pineapples! Hope you don't mind too much.

Thursday night we had a party in the Ratskeller - a costume party
with liquor that some of the guys brought back from Spain on the 3 weeks
vacation. It was a lot of fun - very casual with lots of crazy costumes
improvised from what's available here on the Burg, all the professors coming
too. A party here, with everyone close friends already, just can't miss
really - hope you can come to some next year at Stanford and see
what I mean. Unfortunately many of the kids are planning to stay over
in Germany to study next year, so we won't be at full strength.

Yesterday 8 of us left right after breakfast in the microbus to go to
Stuttgart. We met Herr Zimmermann there and spent the day in two
new exhibits of modern art in Stuttgart. They were both fascinating and
it was a very worthwhile day, although by 3:00 I was understandably from
standing in musuums and concentrating on the paintings. So when we got
back at 4, I spent the two hours until dinner stretched out reading
Time magazine. Then last night I read econ until about 9 pm and
went to bed. Had to get up at 10:30 and 12:15 to take the bus down to
Beutelsbach to bring kids back from the train, but I still managed to get
a little sleep. I spent this morning packing and mailing a box and
suitcase full of stuff home - trying to get myself down to the 44 lbs
allowed for my flight. I'll mail all my books at the end, and then just
hope what's left is not too much.

Well, darling the rest of this weekend is for lots of reading. I'll
be spending lots of the remaining ones that way, with maybe short one
day hikes, etc. Our trip to Luxembourg has been cancelled because the
authorities there need our meeting space for themselves, so I'm riding
with MJE and several others, up to Holland, back through Triers,
Luxembourg, Strasbourg, etc. We'll have four days, so besides Vienna at the end
that will be my last big fling!

It's lunch time now, my love. And in just 5 weeks from today I'll be
lunching in London, waiting for a good fast jet to wing me home to you.
I love you will all my heart.

Always,
Your George
