their figures I've seen no other windows which portrayed so much depth of field (most look very flat 2 dimensional) or feeling of action and drama in their pictures
To complete our already matchless experience at the cathdral we climbed up into the tower to get a view of the city Up 375 steps (counted coming down, puffed going up!) and then up a narrower staircase for about 75 more right into the top of the tower (see arrow on card) about 370 feet above the ground A marvelous - view of the Rhine and the city of course and I have some pictures to prove it!
From the cathedral we went by the city's new modern opera house and then strolled past blocks of fascinating store windows out to the new (1935 much new building going on now) university for lunch- you can always eat cheap and well in student dining facilities After a delicious lunch (40c) we walked out to the lawn beside the running track watched a few fellows working out for a a few minutes then stretched out on our backs in the sunshine and napped for an hour- oh what a life of leisure we live!! From here we strolled back toward the center of town past a section of the medieval city wall past a Romanesque (980) church built on ancient Roman ruins past more fascinating shops We got to the city's best museum just about 15 minutes before closing time so that I only looked at 2 Monet and 2 Utrillo paintings and a Rodin sculpture passed up much more that was worth seeing Then we alked back here past the cathedral and along the river sitting on a bench for a few minutes to watch the boat steam by in both directions
Tomorrow we leave Koln and start our big "Rhine-journey" actually we'll probably on go to Bonn spend the day looking around there (Bridge also has some business to do for dad) If he gets done early enough we may go on a little farther in order to shorten the next days' ride on to Coblenz but for that well have to wait and see Right now its bedtime and I have to go Hope you don't mind the joint letters - they save me saying the same thing tqice and mean that everybody gets more news Tonight and lots of love
George
