My Dear Big Brother,
You know Allan it makes me happy to be able to write that. You're something I have always wanted - but don't get me wrong. All my life I have longed for a big brother, and now I have one. It's a pity I didn't get you sooner though - around about the time I called you a "pair of pants". Remember? I guess it was just as well for me that you weren't my big brother then, or I would probably have found my self across your knee. I was only sixteen then and what a spoiled self-willed sixteen year old I was: However Jeffie has since rectified those bad faults - as much as possible any-way. I think Nancy, Stan & I have a little bit too much Irish blood in our veins to ever be completely tamed. As Jeffie says, we have been disgustingly spoiled by our parents.
Nancy has come home to stay to night Allan, and Mum & Dad are full of smiles. She is becoming a real home girl, & has settled down to married life a lot more completely than really necessary. I generally go down to the Strand on a Saturday night but Nancy wont even come down there with me. Instead she stays home nearly every Saturday night sewing. She is loosing [sic] weight and I think she might be fretting for you. Poor Nance, I know the feeling. She is always talking about you getting leave and a base job.
I got a letter from Jeffie on Friday, it was the first in three weeks
