Which reminds me of certain incident. Capt. Strauss my American M.O. & friend offered to examine any chronic or acute illness amongst my line. One boy had him [...] though he was inclined to diagnose his complaint as chronic T.B. Questioning these Kanakas [?] is like trying to wring blood from a stone. 6 months ago he was recruited for a carrier line with the Americans. They gave him frequent cigarettes but strange to say this mission boy hadn't smoked ever before. Up in the hills he began getting a cigarette cough. He quit smoking but he's never rid himself of the cough. When I interpreted this story to the M.O. he laughed till tears cam.

I'm envious I can't see your spring frock. It's these things I miss deeply.

Going back to the beginning of July I'll try to answer those Innisfail letters, you gave me a better understanding of your good naturedness in your reply to my mother
