October 3, 1942.
Dear Mr. Barclay:
I haven't had much of a chance to write to you
since I came back here eleven weeks ago. The
First ten weeks were a real workout, and
all of us are really glad to now be [?] --
and as the bank says "gentlemen." Beckham
and Kennedy left Quantico the day I was com-
missioned, Beckham to go to New River, North
Carolina, and Kennedy directly to the south Pacific.
I will be through here about the middle of
Decemeber, and hope to have a few days of extended
leave before they send me out of the country.
Perhaps we can get together for that dinner
yet, if I get back to California.
Before leaving Stanford I registered
with the appointment service-and they have
been hounding me since then to return
the recommendation banks they gave
