kind of earlier method of making pop records. I think it's cool that people in the '60s covered Dylan songs and did great versions because they were Dylan fans. I think we do that with Dan (Bejar, of Destroyer) though he sings on the records. It's like if Dylan came in and sang on the Byrd's "Mr. Tambourine Man," that's what out versions of Dan's songs are. And Neko, while the rest of us are slaving away in Vancouver trying to get the record done she's off being an alt-country star.

Zumpano
Carl: We have a record in limbo which I think will basically be dissembled for parts. There's actually one song I really like, and not too long after I started playing it with them, I realized it would be good for New Pornographers I didn't want to be an Indian-giver, but now I think it will fulfill its true destiny.

John: It's so close. It's a real heartbreaker for the Zumpano fans.

Carl: A lot of the songs don't have vocal, or there's fake MIDI horns or MIDI strings that sound ok, but you'd want to replace them with the real thing. It's like trying to force yourself to write a 20 page term paper when you know you're dropping out of school.

Ray Davis
Neko Case: I think we all kind of had the same experience. We got a call at dinner one night from out booking agent and we were like, sure, but also, oh, that;s never gonna happen."

John: "Star Struck" was a pretty inspired choice. Afterwards Ray told us that the Kinks had never played it, so that was kind of an astonishing fact: we got to debut it for the whole world.

Neko: It was a Twilight Zone experience. We know logically that it happened, but none of us can remember it. It was like being abducted, and way too good for me. I was not worthy.

O Canada
Carl: I think I'd sing it in my Hootie and the Blowfish voice.

Neko: It's the same song as "Can't Help Falling in Love with You."
