I am more than satisfied with the
time I spent at Stanford. I not only
enjoyed the liberal and academic program,
but also the people with whom I associated.
I hope this situation will exist after the
war.

As far as I am concerned, the
talk of new horizons and vistas in education
as a result of the war leave me cold. You
know enough of the army education to realize that, to
put it mildly, it is not all it is reputed to be.

I believe universities have an interest
in education and civilization for its own
sake. While I believe universities should
present and study the latest ideas existent,
any compromise with shallow expediemcy
is undesirable.

Sincerely yours,

John P. Wouder
