Cathedral with intent after morning service
to look up Essn.[Essington] King. As I was walking to the
Cathedral Tom Browne overtook me with a note
from his wife which I enclose & which
perhaps you will send to the Major
as he was special invited by Mrs
Rolfe Bd. T Browne & I waited
vainly for Jamie & then went to his
house: from which in the afternoon
as I was strolling off to Essn. King's I
met Jack – who had been at my
house and was then cruising in
search of Essn. King which he
had overshot. We went
there together, and as he wished
to be on board for the night
I saw him as far as I could.
So I saw both your warriors
(boys you call them) and they
knew that beds were ready
for them at Cotmandene
though they could not
come to them. I had
heard of Jamie's engagement
