place which would stir more pleasant
feelings than dear old Camden

I am now correcting the press of a 2nd
edition of my Australia, and have arrived
at the Bligh - Macarthur episode in
which I find no reason for change: though
of course I make what seem to me
improvements, in form, when they
occur to me. I took so much pains
in the 1st edn. with regard to the John
Macarthur episode, that it was unlikely
that I should now find new facts worth
recording. But I am now making my
own Index (the publishers made it before)
and it will greatly assist those who may
refer to the work. By the way you may
not be displeased to read a comment
made in a letter to me from E J Phelps
as to my new edn. of my New Zealand.

He was Minister for the United States in
England, and I was very intimate with
him, he being a most charming man.

He writes "I have read your book with much
profit and satisfaction. It is, of course, and
will be, the book on the subject. You have
completely shown the great injustice done you
in the libel suit which I always quite appreciated.
I have to thank you for a permanent addition
to my library." As Professor Tyndall
