uncle John's letters. I read
many of them at Camden
Park, but my chief researches
were among your grandfather's
letters of course, and my time
was limited. If there should
be anything in my Australia to
which you take exception I shall
be glad to reconsider it. At
present I am busy with N.Zealand
and having condensed, excised, and
inserted, and added a final chapter
(to 1894) am now correcting proofs of
the first volume. It was Lecky that
suggested cabinet form, and I think
as wisely as kindly. I had a letter
from Philip King since I wrote to
you. Essington has been staying
with me:- turned out of his house
by the doctor when Miss Annie
got scarlatina or something
of the sort. Her sister Rose
