The most ancient + venerable portion of the Breviary
is the Psalter. In the Middle Ages the psalms
were usually recited throughout the week according
to several different patterns. As a result the
psalms in the Breviaries may be arranged in their
biblical = numerical order, or in their liturgical
order. When arranged in the later way they form
a ferial Psalter.
Psalm 1 - beatus vir qui non abiitin consilio impiorum....
Psalm 2 - Psaltmus David quare fremuerunt gentes
et populi meditati sunt inania ....
Psalm 4 - in finem in carminibus psalmus David
cum invocarem exaudivit me Deus institae
meae in tribulatione dilatasti mihi misserere
mei ex exaudi orationem meam....
Psalm 95 Venite, exultemus.
