continued his production beyond the end of the century.

Calderinus was papal secretary under Sixtus IV and
professor of Rhetoric at Rome, where he numbered
among his pupils Aldus Manutius, Sabellicus +
Politian.
Martial was teh 1st to shape the epigram
into its present accepted literary form, + throughout
the Renaissance numerous editions fo his
Epigrammata were published attesting to its
wide popularity. There remains lttle question
that these early editions exerted a profound
influence on the Western literarure that followed.
