Agricultural Mission to Peru

Richard A. King, Professor of Agricultural Economics, requests permission fo accept a two-year assignment effective January 18, 1964, with the Agricultural Mission to Peru contract.

Extension of Leave

Norwood Graham Smith, Assistant Professor of English, requests an extension of his leave of absence from July 1, 1956 to June 30, 1965, to continue working on his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia.

Visiting Professor - over age 65

We should like permission to appoint James Thorp, as Visiting Professor of Soil Science (temporarily replacing S. E. Younts) effective February 1, 1964 for a period of four months. Mr. Thorp will be 68 on June 12, 1964.

Resignations

Victor J. Papanek, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Product Design, School of Design resigned effective June 30, 1964.

Joe Wilson Reece, Assistant Professor of Engineering Mechanics resigned effective January 1, 1964.

E. Jack Story, Assistant to the Dean of Physical Sciences and Applied mathematics and Associate Professor of Physics, resigned effective December 31, 1963, to accept another position.

Sanford Eugene Younts, Associate Professor of Soil Science resigned effective February 14, 1964, to accept another position.

Offer Declined

James Ezra Osborn, Extension Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics declined effective February 1, 1964.

Graduate Institute of Extension Education

Chancellor Caldwell reported that, with the approval of President Friday, a Graduate Institute of Extension Education has been established at North Carolina State to foster the growth and increase the effectiveness of programs of extension education in North Carolina.

Department of Extension Personnel Development

Chancellor Caldwell also reported the establishment, in the School of Agriculture and Life Sciences, a Department of Extension Personnel Development charged with the development and administration of a program of in-service training for the professional staff of the Agricultural Extension Service.

This Department will cooperate fully with the broader program of the Graduate Institute of Extension Education, and it has been approved by President Friday.

On motion of Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Umstead, the foregoing report and recommendations of Chancellor Caldwell were unanimously approved.

Chancellor Singletary then presented the following report and recommendations for the University at Greensboro and they were unanimously approved:
