Thurston Jefferson Mann, as Professor and Head of the Department of Genetics at salary of $15,000 for twelve months ($14,000 from Station; $1,000 from College funds) effective January 1, 1964. This is a replacement for Dr. H. F. Robinson who resigned to become Assistant Director of Research and Director of the Institute of Biological Sciences. Dr. Carey H. Bostian has been acting Head of the Department of Genetics. Dr. Mann first came to North Carolina State in 1949 as Research Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associte Professor in 1951, and to Professor in 1955, in the Department of Crop Science.

Ralph Joseph McCracken, as Professor and Head of the Department of Soil Science at annual salary of $14,000 $10,531 from Station and $3,469 from College funds) for twelve months effective January 1, 1964. This is a replacement for Dr. J. W. Fitts who is resigning his position as Department Head to become the Coordinator of the Agency for International Development Latin American Soil Test Project and Professor of Soil Science. Dr. McCracken was first appointed to the faculty of North Carolina State 1956 as an Assistant Professor; in 1957 he became an Associate Professor, and a Professor in 1962.

Robert W. Shoffner, as Director of Foundations and Development, at annual salary of $17,000 from College funds for twelve months effective March 1, 1964, replacing L. L. Ray who is resigning as of February 29, 1964. Mr. Shoffner received his B.S. degree in Agriculture at North Carolina State in 1929 and has been connected with Agricultural Extension Service and the North Carolina Agricultural Extension service since that time. He is at present Assistant to the Dean of Agriculture and Extension Coordinator.

Promotion

Don William Hayne, from Visiting Professor of Experimental Statistics and Zoology, School of PSAM and Agriculture, to Professor of Experimental Statistics and Zoology at salary of $14,500 for twelve months from College funds, effective February 1, 1964. Dr. Hayne was appointed as a Visiting Professor in September of 1962.

Change in Rank and Salary

Arthur J. Coutu, from Professor of Agricultural Economics, School of Agriculture, now on leave in Peru at annual salary of $12,500 from Trust Funds to Professor of Agricultural Economics and Chief of the Agricultural Mission to Peru at annual salary of $23,500 effective January 1, 1964 for twelve months.

Leaves of Absence

Arthur Raymond Eckels, Professor of Electrical Engineering, requests leave without pay for four months effective February 1, 1964, to devote full time to research under a contract between the University of North Carolina and the United States Air Force.

Charles H. Little, Jr., Assistant Professor of Mathematics, requests leave without pay from February 1, 1964 to June 30, 1965 to accept a position with the North Carolina Board of Higher Education.
