William Albert McKnight, Associate Professor, Department of Romance Languages, is recommended for a leave of absence with salary for Fall Semester 1964, in order to complete a work for publication.

Bryce S. DeWitt, Professor, Department of Physics, is recommended for a leave of absence for one year beginning February 1, 1964, without salary. Dr. DeWitt has been awarded a National Science Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Princeton University.

Resignation

George Ham, Chairman and Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, resigned effective January 1, 1964, to enter private practice.

Deaths

Maurice T. Van Hecke, Kenan Professor and former Dean of the School of Law, died December 5, 1963.

Archibald Henderson, Kenan Professor, emeritus, and former Chairman of the Department of Mathematics, died December 6, 1963.

Albert Price Heusner, Professor of Anatomy, School of Medicine, died December 23, 1963.

On motion of Mr. Hill, duly seconded, the report and recommendations of Chancellor Aycock were unanimously approved.

In the absence of Chancellor Caldwell, President Friday presented the report for North Carolina St ate and Dr. Kelly was present to represent Chancellor Caldwell and to answer any questions.

Elvan Edward Hutchinson, as Research Assistant Professor of Textile Technology, School of Textiles, at annual salary of $9,250 for twelve months from College funds effective December 1, 1963. This is a replacement for A. J. Woodbury. Born 1923, Cabell County, West Virginia, married, two children. Education: B.S. 1949, Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio; M. S. 1951, Institute of Textile Technology, Charlottesville, Virginia. Experience: Lab Technician, Standard Ultramarine Co., Huntington, West Virginia; U. S. James Robert Jones, as Extension Assistant Professor of Animal Science, School of Agriculture, at annual salary of $9,500 for twelve months from Extension funds, effective January 1, 1964. Born 1931, Quicksand, Virginia. Married, one child. Education: B.S. 1953, University of Kentucky; Ph.D. 1961, Cornell University. Experience: U. S.
