The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina met in the Governor's Office on Friday, January 10, 1964, in regular session, at 10:30 A. M. , Governor Sanford presiding, Arch T. Allen, Secretary. The following members were present: Messrs. Maynard, Noble, Wicker, Barber, Pearsall, Mintz, Hill, Bryant, Taylor, Mrs. Burgwyn and Mrs. Lathrop.

Also present were: President Friday, Vice President Anderson, Secretary Weaver, Business Officer and Treasurer Shepard, Chancellors Aycock and Singletary and Dean Kelly representing Chancellor Caldwell.

The Chancellors' reports were presented in the following order:

Chancellor Aycock for the University at Chapel Hill

Appointments:

Kurt Schlesinger, as Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology,
with salary of $7,000 beginning January 1, 1964. Born Graz, Australia, 1933. Married. Education: B. A. 1958 City College of San Francisco; M.A. 1959 San Francisco State College; Ph.D. (pending) 1964, University of California at Berkeley. Experience: Graduate teaching Assistant 1959-60 and Graduate Research Assistant 1960-62, University of California at Berkeley. Interviewed by: Dean of College of Arts and Sciences, Chairman of the Department and Staff.

Luther Clarence Hollandsworth, M. D., as Instructor on year to year basis beginning January 1, 1964, in the School of Medicine, with salary of $18,000, half of which is from trust funds. He comes to the University from Bowman Gray School of Medicine.

Margaret Catherine Moore, Assistant Professor, School of Nursing, has been on a year to year basis since I960. We request that she be put on regular faculty basis at her present rank as of July 1, 1963.

Administrative Appointment

Wayne Danielson, Professor, School of Journalism, is recommended to succeed Norval N. Luxon as Dean of the School of Journalism with increase in salary from $12,750 to $16,000, beginning July 1, 1964. At that time Dean Luxon retires as Dean but continues as Professor in the School.

Promotion

Henry Bradley Wells, Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health, is recommended for a promotion to Associate Professor with increase in salary to $18,000 from trust funds, beginning July 1, 1964. Present salary of $17,000 is from trust funds.

Increase

Cornelius O. Cathey, Dean of Student Affairs, is recommended for an increase in salary from trust funds from $17,000 to $19,100 to September 1, 1964.
