WHEREAS, as authorized by the Executive Committee, March 11, 1963, and with the subsequent approval of the Council of State, the University purchased from Allen Y. and R Wilbur Stokes a tract of approximately 40 acres of land adjoining Chinqua-Penn Plantation considered necessary for the protection of the Plantation; and

WHEREAS, the Messrs. Stokes sold the land to the University for $225 per acre, a price considered most reasonable; and

WHEREAS, at the time of this transaction the Messrs. Stokes offered to trade 1.39 acres of the 40-acre tract for 1.39 acres of land owned by the University lying on the North side of the Chinqua-Penn Road, but at the suggestion of the University and in order not to complicate the 40-acre transaction, did not insist upon the trade; and

WHEREAS, the Messrs. Stokes have now offered to buy the 1.39 acres from the University at the same price at which they sold the 40-acre tract, namely $225 per acre - $312.75 for the tract; and

WHEREAS, the 1. 39 acre tract is not within the natural boundaries of Chinqua-Penn Plantation and is not considered necessary or useful to the operation of the Plantation; and

WHEREAS, the President and Business Officer and Treasurer of The University of North Carolina have recommended the sale of the 1.39 acres to the Messrs. Stokes and the Trustees' Committee on Real Estate has approved this recommendation;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina that it does hereby authorize the President of the University of North Carolina, or his representative, to request the State Department of Administration to negotiate the sale of 1.39 acres of land, as shown on a plat of survey for C.
