Eugene Charles Luschei, Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, Is recommended for a leave of absence without salary, for Spring Semester 1964 in order to serve as Visiting Professor at Pennsylvania State University.

Cancellation of Leave

Harvey L. Smith, Professor, Social Research Section, Division of Health Affairs, was granted a partial leave of absence for two years beginning September 1, 1963, in order to undertake mental health planning for North Carolina. He now requests his leave to be cancelled since he finds he can undertake these duties while in residence and on active staff at the University.

Russell Marvin Grumman, former Director of the University Extension Division died September 17, 1963.

Murphey Dale Ranson, Instructor of Physical Education and Head Track and Cross Country Coach for the University, died October 21, 1963.

Robert John Getty, Paddison Professor of Classics, died October 26, 1963.

Loren Carey MacKinney, Kenan Professor of Medieval History, died October 271 1963.

Change in Status - Dean of Law School

Henry Parker Brandis, Jr., Dean and Professor, School of Law, is resigning as Dean of the School, July 1, 1964. He will continue his service as Professor in the School of Law.

James Dickson Phillips, Jr. Associate Professor and Assistant Dean of the School of Law, is recommended for appointment as Dean of the School, beginning July 1, 1964, with salary of $18,500.

Mr. Phillips is a native of Scotland County, North Carolina, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Davidson College in 1943 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of North Carolina in 1948. He served as an Assistant Director in the Institute of Government for one year and resigned to enter the private practice of law in Laurinburg and Fayetteville. In September 1959 Mr. Phillips returned to the School of Law at the University.

John Max Falter, Extension Assistant Professor of Entomology, School of Agriculture, at annual salary of $9, 500 from Extension funds for twelve months, effective November 1, 1963. This is a replacement for W. A. Stephen. Born, West Bend, Wisconsin, 1930. Married, two children. Education: B.S. 1952, M. S. 1959, Ph.D. (expected) 1963, University of Wisconsin. Experience: U. S.
