The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of The University of North Carolina met in regular session in the Governor's Office, State Capitol Building, Raleigh, North Carolina, at 10:30 o'clock A. M. , Eastern Standard Time, on Monday, September 9, 1963, Governor Sanford presiding, Arch T. Allen, Secretary. Due notice of the meeting was given to all members of the Executive Committee by the Secretary. The following members were present: Mrs. Lathrop, Mrs. Burgwyn, Messrs. Umstead, Hill, Bryant, Maynard, Pearsall, Barber and Wicker.

The following members were absent: Messrs. Mintz, Noble and Taylor.

Also present were: President Friday, Vice President Anderson, Business Officer and Treasurer Shepard, Secretary Weaver, Chancellors Aycock and Caldwell.

University at Chapel Hill:

Chancellor Aycock presented the following report and recommendations which were, on motion of Mr. Hill, duly seconded, unanimously approved:

Appointments

Carl B. Holmes, as Associate Professor, School of Public Health, with salary of $14,000 beginning August 15, 1963. Born 1927, Cross Plains, Tennessee. Married. Four children. Education: D.D.S. 1954 University of Tennessee; M.P.H. 1957, University of Michigan. Experience: Instructor 1959 University of Tennessee College of Dentistry; Lecturer 1961-62, Chattanooga Technological Institute. Interviewed by: Dean of School of Public Health and members of his faculty.

Robert L. Rands, as Associate Professor and Director of Research Laboratory of Anthropology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, with salary of $9,900, beginning August 1, 1963. Born 1922, Washington, D. C. Married. One child. Education: B.A. 1949, University of New Mexico; M.A. 1949, University of California at Los Angeles; Ph.D. 1952, Columbia University. Experience: Teaching Assistant 1948-49, UCLA; Assistant Professor 1952-56, Associate Professor 1956-60, University of Mississippi; Research Associate I960 -, University of Pennsylvania; Visiting Professor 1963, University of North Carolina. Intervewed by: Dr. Rands was a Visiting Professor here last year and is well-known to the University.

E. Barbara Stocking, as Associate Professor, School of Public Health, with salary of $10,000 beginning August 15, 1963. Born 1915, Chester, South Carolina. Widow. Two children. Education: Dipolma 1937, Capital City School of Nursing; B.S. 1953, Wayne State University; M.P.H. 1957, Harvard University. Experience: Staff nurse 1937-40, Visiting Nurse Association, Washington, D. C. ; Nurse 1951-52, Grace Hospital, Detroit; Clinical Instructor 1952-54, Children's Hospital, Detroit; Staff Nurse 1954-56, Department of Health, Eloise, Michigan; Assistant Professor 1957 -, University of Minnesota.
