Assistant Director of the Agricultural Extension Service

Approval is requested to appoint Dr. Edgar John Boone, as Professor of Rural Sociology and Assistant Director of Agricultural Extension Service, at annual salary of $15,000 from Extension and College funds effective September 1, 1963.

Dr. Boone was born in 1930, in Varnado, Louisiana. He is married to the former Ethel Bower and has two children. Dr. Boone received his B.S. degree in 1951 from Louisiana State University, his M.S. in 1955 and Ph.D. in 1959 from the University of Wisconsin. He became an Associate County Agent for the Louisiana Extension Service in 1955 and served as an Assistant Program Analyst from 1956 to 1958. In 1959-60 he was State Program Leader at the University of Arizona, and from I960 to 1963 he has been an Associate Professor at the National Agricultural Extension Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Boone has a number of publications.

Promotion:

Walter Jerome Dobrogosz from Research Associate to Assistant Professor of Botany and Bacteriology, School of Agriculture, at annual salary of $8,400 ($6,200 Station - $2,200 College) for 12 months, effective July 1, 1963.

Leave of Absence

George Oliver Harrell, Assistant Professor of Mineral Industries, requests a leave of absence for two years effective July 1, 1963, to complete a doctorate at Ohio State University.

Allard K. Lowenstein, Assistant Professor of Social Studies, requests a leave of absence for seven months effective July 1, 1963, to accept a temporary assignment with the Peace Corps.

Agricultural Peruvian Contract

Jay Lawrence Apple, Professor of Plant Pathology, requests permission to accept an appointment on the Agricultural Peruvian contract for two years effective October 18, 1963.

J. Frank Doggett, Extension Assistant Professor in Soil Science, requests permission to accept an appointment on the Agricultural Peruvian contract for two years effective July 1, 1963.

Robert E. McCollum, Assistant Professor in Soil Science, requests permission to accept an appointment on the Agricultural Peruvian contract for two years effective June 1, 1963.

Jackson A. Rigney, Professor in Experimental Statistics and Director of the North Carolina Agricultural Mission to Peru, requests permission to accept an appointment on the Agricultural Peruvian contract for four months effective July 1, 1963.

Herbert Temple Scofield, Professor in Botany and Head of the Department, requests permission to accept an appointment on the Agricultural Peruvian contract for two years effective August 18, 1963.

Archie D. Stuart, Extension Professor in Crop Science, requests permission to accept an appointment on the Agricultural Peruvian contract for two years effective July 1, 1963.

Change in Rank and Salary

Raymond L. Murray, from Burlington Professor and Head of the Physics Department at annual salary of $16,500 ($14,000 from College and $2,500 from Engineering Foundation funds) to Burlington Professor and Head of the Department of Nuclear Engineering at annual salary of $19,500 $17, 000 from College and $2, 500 from Engineering Foundation funds). This is a replacement for H. A. Lamonds.
