Harvey Liss Smith, Professor, Social Research Section, Division of Health Affairs, is recommended for a partial leave of absence (3/4 time) for two years beginning September 1, 1963, with one-fourth salary, in order to undertake the direction of a staff being established for purposes of mental health planning for the State of North Carolina.

Resignations

Walter Reece Berryhill, Dean of the School of Medicine, resigns from his Deanship, but not from his Professorship, effective August 31, 1964. Dean Berryhill is recommended for a leave of absence from September 1, 1964 - August 31, 1965, from the time of his resignation as Dean to the time of his resumption of professorial duties.

John W. Carr, Professor of Mathematics, resigns August 31, 1963, to accept an appointment at the University of Pennsylvania.

John Edward Dykstra, Professor, School of Business Administration, resigned June 30, 1963, because of dissatisfaction with teaching.

Jason Lewis Saunders, Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy, resigns August 31, 1963, to accept an appointment at the University of California.

Julia Duprey Smith, Associate Professor, School of Nursing, resigns September 1, 1963, because of burden of duties.

Glenn Elson Watkins, Associate Professor, Department of Music, resigned May 31, 1963, to accept an appointment as Associate Professor at the University of Michigan.

William Edward Creighton, Assistant Professor, School of Public Health, resigned June 30, 1963, to return to home state and private practice of Dentistry.

John Payl Dreher, Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, resigns August 31, 1963, to accept an appointment at Lawrence College in Wisconsin.

Wallace Arthur Dynes, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology-Anthropology, resigned May 31, 1963, to accept an appointment at Florida State College.

James Herbert Taylor, appointed Professor in the Department of Botany to report September 1, 1964, has resigned before reporting for duty to accept a like position at Florida State University at a higher salary and with better research facilities.

Charles Henderson, Jr., Dean of Student Affairs and Associate Professor, Department of Classics, resigns his Deanship August 31, 1963, and resumes full-time teaching duties as Associate Professor of Classics.

Appointment

Cornelius Oliver Cathey, Professor, Department of History, is recommended for appointment as Dean of Student Affairs in addition to his Professorship in the Department of History for one year, September 1, 1963 - August 30, 1964, at a salary of $17,000 for the year. On September 1, 1964, Dr. Cathey will resume full-time duties in the Department of History.

Expiration of Term

Rachel Lee Nunley, Assistant Professor, School of Medicine, will complete her three-year term of appointment on June 30, 1963.

Mr. Hill moved that the report and recommendations of Chancellor Aycock be approved and included in his motion a request that extra care be used in selecting foreign faculty members, particularly in the School of Medicine. The motion was seconded by Judge Mintz and it was unanimously adopted.
