Woman's College Campus
Greensboro, North Carolina

The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University met in special session in the Administration building on the campus of the Woman's College, on Monday afternoon, May 27, 1963, at 2:00 o'clock, with the following members present: Mrs. Lathrop, Messrs. Barber, Mintz, Hill, Pearsall, Bryant and Taylor. Arch T. Allen, Secretary.

In the absence of Governor Sanford, Mr. Bryant was elected to the chair.

University at Chapel Hill

Chancellor Aycock presented a request for approval of appointment of a new Dean of the School of Public Health to succeed Dean McGavran who is retiring July 1, and he made the following recommendation:

William Fred Mayes as Dean of the School of Public Health. Born in Jackson County, Missouri in 1908. Married, three children (all married). Education: B.S. 1936 andM.D. 1938, University of Kansas; M. H. P., 1948, Harvard School of Public Health. Internship and Residency Training: Trinity Lutheran Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri; Pediatrics Residency, University of Kansas Hospital, Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan (including 6 months in Herman Kiefer Contagious Disease Hospital). Teaching Experience: Instructor in Preventative Pediatrics, University of Kansas Medical School; Visiting Lecturer in Public Health, University of Kansas Medical School; Visiting Lecturer in Community Health, University of Wichita; Assistant Professor of Public Health Practice, and Associate Professor of Public Health Practice, Harvard School of Public Health; Acting Head of the Department of Public Health Practice, Harvard School of Public Health. From 1961 to the present time Dr. Mayes has served as Chief, Office of Research Grants, Bureau of State Services, U.S. Public Health Service, Washington, D. C.

On motion of Mr. Pearsall, duly seconded, the appointment of Dr. Mayes as Dean of the School of Public Health was unanimously approved.

State College

Chancellor Caldwell presented the following recommendations for State College and requested their approval:

Appointments:

Francis Frederick Busta, as Assistant Professor of Food Science, School of Agriculture ai annual salary of $9,500 ($706 from College funds and $8,794 from Station funds) for twelve months effective September 1, 1963. This is a replacement for Mr. C. W. Dill. Born 1935, Faribault, Minnesota. Married. No children. Education: B.A. 1957, M.S. 1961, University of Minnesota; Ph.D. to be awarded in September, 1963, University of Illinois. Experience: Teaching and Research Assistant, University of Minnesota 1958-60; Research Assistant, University of Illinois 1961-62. Interviewed by: Dean Harry C. Kelly.

Joseph William Love, as Extension Assistant Professor of Horticultural Science, School of Agriculture, at annual salary of $9,000 from Extension funds for twelve months effective July 1, 1963. Born 1931, Monroe, Louisiana. Married. Two children. Education: B.S. 1957,
