Reappointments

Approval is requested to reappoint Dr. John W. Bishir as Assistant Professor of Mathematics, at annual salary of $10,500 from College funds for nine months, effective September 1, 1963. Dr. Bishir first came to State College as an Instructor in September, 1957, and was promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor on July 1, 1961. For the 1962-63 academic year he has held a position at Florida State University.

Approval is requested for the reappointment of Dr. Bibhuti Bhushan Bhattacharyya as a member of the faculty. Dr. Bhattacharyya received his first appointment at State College in September, 1959, as a Visiting Associate Statistician in Experimental Statistics, School of Physical Sciences and Applied Mathematics. He held this position until August 31, 1961. During 1961-62 he was a Fellow, Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi, India, and during 1962 to the present he has been an Instructor in the Department of Mathematics, University of Toronto. We recommend that he be reappointed as Assistant Professor of Experimental Statistics, School of Physical Sciences and Applied Mathematics at annual salary of $9,900 from College funds for nine months effective September 1, 1963.

Business Manager to replace Mr. J. G. Vann who is retiring

The Executive Committee approved the following appointment and referred it to the full Board for final action:

Dr. William Lindsay Turner as the Business Manager for State College and Extension Professor of Agricultural Economics, effective July 1, 1963. This is a replacement for Mr. J. G. Vann, present Business Manager, who retires as of June 30, 1963. Dr. Turner was born on June 25, 1923, Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He is married to the former Marjorie Windle and has two children. Dr. Turner received his B.S. degree in 1948 and M.S. in 1950 from State College, and a D. P. A. degree in 1956 from Harvard University.

In August, 1948, Dr. Turner became a Farm Management Specialist in the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service and held this position until September, 1952, and again from June, 1953 to January, 1955. He became a Public Affairs Specialist in the Extension Service in February, 1955 and in May, 1956, became in charge of Extension Farm Management. Dr. Turner was made in charge of Extension Farm Management and Public Affairs in May, 1958. On January 1, 1962, he was awarded the academic rank of Extension Professor of Agricultural Economics. Presently, he is the Assistant Business Manager of North Carolina State College, a position which he has held since March 1, 1962.

While associated with the Agricultural Extension Service, Dr. Turner established an outstanding reputation and ability in Extension Farm Management and Public Affairs work for training of County Extension workers and for interpreting research results. He has numerous articles and publications to his credit.
