The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina met in regular session at the Governor's Office, State Capitol Building, at 10:30 o'clock, A.M., Monday, May 13, 1963, with the following members present: Mr. Maynard, Mr. Wicker, Mr. Hill, Mr. Noble, Mrs. Lathrop, Judge Mintz and Mr. Pearsall. Arch T. Allen, Secretary, Billie Curtis, Assistant Secretary.

Also present were: President Friday, Vice-President Anderson, Business Officer and Treasurer Shepard, Chancellors Aycock, Caldwell and Singletary.

The following members were absent: Messrs. Bryant, Taylor, Umstead and Barber.

In the absence of Governor Sanford, Judge Mintz was elected to act as Chairman.

Minutes

The minutes of the last regular meeting of the Executive Committee and those of the Special Meeting held on April 10, 1963, were approved.

Chancellors' Reports

President Friday was recognized and he called on Chancellor Aycock who presented the following report and recommendations:

Appointments:

Dewitt Clinton Dearborn, as Professor, School of Business Administration, with salary of $11,000 beginning September 1, 1963. Born: Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 1918. Married. Two children. Education: A. B. 1940 Gettysburg College; M. B. A. 1948 and D. C. S. 1958, Harvard University. Experience: Assistant Professor, 1948-51, University of Kansas; Research Associate, 1951-52, Harvard; Administrator, Program for Executives, 1953-, and Associate Professor 1958-, Carnegie Institute of Technology; Visiting Associate Professor, 1960-61, Harvard. Interviewed by: Dean of School of Business Administration and his faculty.

Girard E. Lenski, as Professor, Department of Sociology-Anthropology, with salary of $14,500 beginning August 1, 1963. Born: Washington, D. C., 1924. Married. Four children. Education: B.A., 1947, M.A. , 1949, Ph. D., 1950, Yale University. Experience: Instructor to Associate Professor, 1950-63, University of Michigan. Interviewed by: Chancellor Aycock.

John W. Dixon, Jr., as Associate Professor, Department of Religion, with salary of $11,500 ($500 of which is from trust funds), beginning August 1, 1963. Born: Richmond, Virginia, 1919. Married. Three children. Education: B.A., 1941, Emory and Henry College; Ph.D. 1953, University of Chicago. Experience: Instructor 1950-52,
