Purchase of Additional Land for Chinqua-Penn Plantation

President Friday also presented a recommendation of the Committee on Real Property for the purchase of 40 additional acres of land adjoining Chinqua-Penn Plantation. Mrs. Penn has indicated her willingness to give to the University funds with which to purchase this land which has long been considered necessary to the proper protection of the Plantation. It is now known that the owners may be willing to sell the land at a figure of around $225 per acre. The Committee on Real Property recommends acceptance of Mrs. Penn's offer, and that the Administration be authorized to request the State Department of Administration to negotiate for the purchase of this property at a price that will not exceed the amount of money Mrs. Betsy Penn is willing to donate for the purpose.

Mr. Bryant moved that the above recommendation be approved. Mr. Maynard seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved.

Woman's College - Acquisition of Land

On motion of Mr. Hill, seconded by Mrs. Lathrop, authorization was granted to the Woman's College to purchase the house and lot located at 534 Highland Avenue in Greensboro, provided an agreement can be reached on a price acceptable to the owner. The administration was authorized to request the State Department of Administration to negotiate for the purchase of the property at a price not exceeding available funds for this purpose in the Land Acquisition Account of the College. The purchase of this property was approved and recommended by the Committee on Real Property.

State College - Football Stadium

A proposal for a new football stadium at State College was presented, and action on the matter was postponed until such time as the matter could be given further study.

The Committee then adjourned.
