Morehead Scholarship competition. He stated that of 72 contestants for 1963, 53 were chosen which is the largest number ever chosen in one year. Of this number 31 boys are from North Carolina. The cost of the scholarships awarded this year is $306,000.

Duke Power Company

Chancellor Aycock reported that the Duke Power Company has abandoned its proposed power line construction across University property, and he therefore requested that the action taken by the Executive Committee on July 10, 1961 be rescinded.

Mr. Hill moved that the action taken by the Executive Committee in granting a right-of-way to the Duke Power Company be rescinded. The motion was duly seconded, and it was unanimously adopted.

State College

In the absence of Chancellor Caldwell who was in Washington on official business, President Friday presented the report and recommendations for State College and they were unanimously approved. They are as follows:

Everett Eugene Chambers, as Assistant Professor of Horticultural Science, School of Agriculture, at annual salary of $8,600 ($731 from College funds and $7,869 from Station funds) for twelve months effective April 1, 1963. This is a replacement for Robert J. Schramm, Jr. Born 1935; married; two children. Education: B.S., 1956, Ph.D. to be conferred in June, 1963, University of Wisconsin. Oscar Wendell Dillon, Jr., as Associate Professor of Engineering Mechanics, School of Engineering at annual salary of $11,000 ($10,500 from College funds and $500 from Foundation funds) for nine months effective September 1, 1963.
