The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina met in regular session in the Governor's Office, in Raleigh, at 10:30 o'clock A.M. , on Monday, March 11, 1963, Governor Terry Sanford presiding, Arch T. Allen, Secretary.

The following members were present: Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Lathrop, Messrs. Bryant, Hill, Maynard, Noble and Barber.

Chancellors' Reports

President Friday was recognized and he called on Chancellor Aycock for his report and recommendations which were as follows:

University at Chapel Hill

Appointments

James William Hanson, as Director for the Computation Center, with a salary of $12,000 for a two-year period, beginning March 1, 1963. Born, Christopher, Illinois 1927; married; three children. Education: Bachelor of Naval Science 1949, U.S. Naval Academy; M.A. 1956, University of Michigan. Experience: Lt. 1955-59; Graduate Assistant 1957-59, University of Michigan; Research Associate and Chief of Computer Programming, UNC, 1959 --. Interviewed by: Mr. Hanson has been with the University since 1959 and is well-known here.

William Lentz Ivey, as Assistant Professor of Hospital Administration and Associate Director of North Carolina Memorial Hospital, with salary of $13,000 beginning March 1, 1963. Born Auburn, Alabama 1927; married; two children. Education: B.S. 1948 Auburn University; M S. 1951, UNC. Experience: Laboratory Assistant, Teaching Fellow, Instructor, Lecturer, School of Business Administration 1948 -, UNC; Manager Private Patient Service, 1957 - . Interviewed by: Mr. Ivey received his M.S. degree here in 1951 and has been with the University ever since that time.

Donald B. Anderson, as Professor, Department of Botany, with no salary, beginning as of February 1, 1963. This appointment is in addition to Dr. Anderson's primary position as Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research for the Consolidated University.

C. Carroll Hollis, as Professor of English, with salary of $13,000 beginning September 1, 1963. Born Needham, Massachusetts, 1911. Married; three children. Education: Ph.B. 1935, Marquette University; M.A. 1937, University of Wisconsin; Ph.D. 1954, University of Michigan. Experience: Graduate Fellow 1937-38, St. Louis University; Instructor to Professor 1938-61, University of Detroit; Specialist, American Culture 1961-63, Library of Congress; Adj. Professor, 1962-63, George Washington University. Interviewed by Chancellor Aycock.

Berthe Marie Marti, as Professor, Department of Classics, with salary of $7,500 for service for one semester per year, beginning February 1, 1964. Born Vevey, Switzerland, 1904. Education: Licence es lettres, 1925, University of Lausanne; M.A. 1926, and Ph.D. 1933, Bryn Mawr College. Experience: Instructor to Professor 1930-1963, Bryn Mawr College; Visiting Professor 1961-63, American Academy in Rome. Interviewed by: Chairman of Classics Department and faculty of the department.
