These projects and the land acquisition for the Experiment Station and a modest sum for the station program all total $6,897,000 in Capital Improvements for State College.

Woman's College

"At Woman's College the following Capital Improvements projects were recommended: The widening of West Drive, funds to modernize and renovate five dormitories, a major utility renovation program, the rewiring of seven buildings, major improvements in the Dining Hall, the air conditioning of the library, a $980,000 addition to Aycock and the Music Building, a $500,000 addition to Mclver Building for the art department, two home management units, several smaller projects and funds to purchase adjoining land. All of these recommendations total $3,883,000.

"Finally, in response to the recommendations of the Governor's Commission on Educational Television, the sum of $1,250,000 was recommended for the expansion of the television operations of the University to carry its coverage across the state.

"On Thursday, February 14, the University was invited to appear before the Joint Appropriations Committee of the General Assembly to present its arguments relating to the recommendations made by the Advisory Budget Commission.

"After expressing our gratitude for what the Commission had done, Chancellor Aycock, Chancellor Caldwell, and Chancellor Singletary and I outlined the supplemental requests we felt should be submitted that were not included in the Budget Commission's recommendations. They were these:

"First, in the area of salary funds, the increases recommended for the Division of Health Affairs teaching faculties are short of our request. Also, the amounts requested for residents and house staffs in the Psychiatric Center and the Memorial Hospital are short of requests. We asked for restoration of the cuts made here.

"Secondly, there is a serious deficiency in the salary funds recommended for the Agricultural Extension Service and the
