Born 1925, Istanbul, Turkey. Married, one child. Turkish citizenship. Education: M.S. 1947; D.S. 1951 Technical University of Istanbul. Experience: Teaching and Research Assistant, Technical University of Istanbul, 1947-51 and 1952-53; Research Assistant, Brown University, Rhode Island, 1953-55; Assistant Professor, Technical University of Istanbul, 1955-57; Mathematician, Research on trajectory analysis, SHAPE Air Defense Technical Center, The Hague, Holland, 1957-59; Assistant Professor, Technical University of Istanbul, 1959-62. Interviewed by: Dr. Topakoglu was appointed to the faculty in September, 1961 and served in the Mechanical Engineering Department for one month. His employment had to be terminated because he was unable to obtain a permanent visa at that time.

Joint Appointment

On June 30, 1963, Dr. Sanford Winston will retire from his position as Head of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the School of General Studies. We would like to recommend Dr. Selz Mayo, presently Professor and Head of the Department of Rural Sociology in the School of Agriculture, as Dr. Winston's successor effective July 1, 1963. It is intended that he will continue as Head of the Department of Rural Sociology. We do not propose that the two departments should become one but hope that effective cooperation can be achieved by this joint appointment.
