and teaching grants from federal sources, foundations, private industry, and from trust funds; and (2) Extramural sources -- a wide variety of agencies for studies, surveys, and consultation peculiar to the field of public health.

Intramural work includes the basic teaching function, and that added direction, consultation, supervision, and administration required for projects for which funds for salary are customarily available and forthcoming. When such added funds are provided, they may be placed in a Trust Fund or Account, to be set up by the University similar to those of the private practice clinics or paid directly to the persons rendering the services from the grant account as a portion of salary.

Extramural work shall not be in conflict with the interest of the University or in any way detrimental to the professional status of the faculty member, the School of Public Health, or the University. Before such extramural work may be undertaken, it must have the written approval of the department head and the Dean of the School of Public Health.

Royalties and nominal incidental honoraria shall be excluded from these considerations.

For those holding nine-month appointments, the salary limitations shall apply proportionately only. They shall be free to work and earn outside the University as they see fit during the summer months.

The President of the University is authorized to establish allowable ceilings on total salary of members of the faculty of the School of Public Health which arise from State appropriated funds, from income from professional services and activities, provided that in no case shall the total salary exceed $30, 000.

Pursuant to the foregoing authority, the members of the faculty of the School of Public Health shall be paid salaries within the following ranges:


Professor and Chairman $15,000 - $30,000
Professor 11,000 - 27,500
Associate Professor 8,500 - 25,000
Assistant Professor 6,000 - 19,000
Instructor 4,500 - 15,000

Except for faculty positions with major administrative responsibilities, other than departmental chairmanships, that portion of a faculty member's salary for teaching, research, or service which may be paid from State appropriated University funds shall not exceed the following limits:


Professor and Chairman $18,000
Professor 15,000
Associate Professor 12,500
Assistant Professor 9,500
Instructor 7,500

Section 2-11 School of Nursing

Policies for the Remuneration of the F acuity.

Facuity members of the School of Nursing are responsible for the teaching of students in this professional field.

They may also be called upon to provide other professional services, such as advisory and consultation services and sponsored research and training, for which there may be compensation. The income derived from such other sources will help to support teaching and research by augmenting State salary funds and contributing in other ways to the development of the School and its departments.

Faculty members of the School of Nursing may derive their income from several sources of funds:

(1) Intramural Sources. State appropriations, training, research, and teaching grants from federal sources, foundations, and trust funds;
