(3) Records will be kept by the cashier, and a statement will be rendered each month to each participant indicating his total income.

(4) All fees collected in the Intramural Program of the School of Dentistry will be paid into a special fund as established by the University Business Office. Disbursements from this fund shall be in accordance with Section 2-2, Subsection 6.

3. Extramural Work.

A. Department heads shall each month submit a report to the Dean, indicating the total net income from all extramural sources as referred to in Paragraph 1B.

4. Limitation of Income from Intra- and Extramural Work of a Full-time Member of the Staff.

A. The President of the University is authorized to establish allowable ceilings on total earning of members of the faculty of the School of Dentistry which arise from State appropriated funds, from income from clinical practice, and from other professional activities, provided that in no case shall the combined earnings exceed $30,000.

Pursuant to the foregoing authority, the members of the faculty of the Dental School shall be paid salaries within the following ranges:


Instructor $4,500 - 15,000
Assistant Professor 6,000 - 19,000
Associate Professor 8,500 - 25,000
Professor 11,000 - 27,500
Professor & Department Head 15,000 - 30,000

Except for faculty positions with major administrative responsibilities, other than departmental chairmanships, that portion of a faculty member's salary for teaching, research or patient care which may be paid from State appropriated University funds shall not exceed the following limits:


Instructor $7,500
Assistant Professor 9,500
Associate Professor 12,500
Professor 15,000
Professor & Department Head 18,000

B. When the combined net income of a faculty member from all sources reaches a sum equal to that cited in 4A above for the year, the remaining net (excess) sum will be deposited in a special dental fund supervised by the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina. The monies in this fund may be drawn upon by the School of Dentistry for purposes of research or additional equipment, in accordance with the policies of the University pertaining to such funds.

5. School of Dentistry Research and Education Fund.

Periodically, on the order of the Dean of the School of Dentistry, a sum equivalent to one per cent of the gross income of the participants in the Dental School Intramural Private Practice shall be transferred from the Private Practice Fund to the School of Dentistry Research and Education Fund. The transferred funds may be used for the purpose of research activities, a Dean's Discretionary Fund, and Special Dental School projects.

Section 2-10. School of Public Health - Policies for Remuneration of the Full-Time Faculty.

Faculty Members of the School of Public Health are responsible for the teaching of students in this professional field.

This faculty will also be called upon to provide other professional services, including patient care, advisory services, and sponsored research and training, for which there may be compensation. The income derived from such other sources will help to support teaching and research by augmenting State salary funds and contributing in other ways to the development of the School and its departments.
