Promotions

C. Hugh Holman, Kenan Professor and former Chairman of the Department of English, is recommended for promotion to Dean of the Graduate School and Kenan Professor, with increase in salary from $14,500 to $20,000 on a twelve-months' basis, beginning February 1, 1963. Dr. Holman replaces Dean Alexander Heard, resigned. Dr. Holman has been a member of the faculty in Chapel Hill since 1949.

Donald Kenneth Springen, Instructor, Department of English, is recommended for promotion to Assistant Professor, retroactive to July 1, 1962, without change in salary.

William Phillip Webster, Research Associate, School of Dentistry, is recommended for promotion to Research Associate in Pathology, School of Medicine and Assistant Professor, School of Dentistry, without change in salary, beginning September, 1962.

Leaves of Absence

W. Geoffrey Wysor, Jr. , Assistant Professor, School of Medicine, is recommended for leave of absence, without salary, from January 1 to August 1, 1963, in order to accept a visiting professorship at the Escalo Paulista School of Medicine at Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Richard Austin King, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, is recommended for a leave of absence, without salary, for the academic year 1963, in order to accept a grant for Post Doctoral training at the University of Washington.

May Davis Hill, Art Librarian, is recommended for an approved leave of absence, October 1, 1962 to May 31, 1963, with partial salary of $1550, in order to further work on her Ph.D. at the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University.

Resignations

George Alexander Heard, Dean of the Graduate School and Professor of Political Science, has resigned, effective February 1, 1963, to become Chancellor of Vanderbilt University.

Ellen Elizabeth Guillot, Associate Professor, School of Public Health, resigned September 30, 1962, to accept a Government position.

Claude McClure, Jr., Assistant Professor, School of Medicine, resigned October 18, 1962, while on military leave, to accept a commission in the regular army.

Myron A. Peyton, Professor, Department of Romance Languages, resigned August 31, 1962. He returned to former position at College of Wooster (Ohio, because his wife was homesick).

Deaths

Roy Melton Brown, Professor Emeritus, School of Social Work and former Chairman of the Department of Social Work, died October 16, 1962.

Clyde Edward Mullis, Associate Professor, Department of Physical Education, died September 25, 1962.
